Use Terms

The requirements for becoming a member are:

  1. To be over sixty-five.

  2. Have a good health

  3. To make an initial contribution of 150 €uros

Members may use the services of the residence under any of these conditions:

  1. When their physical condition means that they need determined care.

  2. When the member needs to convalesce from an operation or illness.

Points from the Cooperative's Statutes that should be mentioned due to their importance are the following:

I. Use of the Residence

To be able to use the Residence you must fulfil the following requisites:

  1. To have made a contribution of  twenty-one thousand, thirty-five euros, forty-two centimes (21,035.42 euros) into the cooperative's current account. The payment of this amount can have been made throughout the life of the member.

  2. The capital the member pays throughout his life will be compensated with the services of the Residence.

II.Withdrawal of membership

This is regulated in the following way:

  1. When a member withdraws, the capital he has paid whilst being a member will be returned in a maximum period of four yearly payments.

  2. When a member withdraws having made use of the Residence, seventy percent of the capital provided will be returned in a maximum period of four yearly payments.

  3. When the reason for the withdrawal is the death of a member, his heir will be returned seventy percent of the capital in a maximum period of four yearly payments. Should the heir wish to continue with the membership of the testator, he must provide twenty-five percent of the capital duly updated, either before he is sixty-five or before being admitted to the Residence.

III.People aged over sixty-five

People aged sixty-five and over may also be admitted to the Dr. Pi Sunyer Cooperative.  After a physical and mental examination to determine their state of health, these people will be admitted to the cooperative as adhered members. They will not have the right to vote at the general meetings of the cooperative that are held monthly.

With regard to the monthly expenses of enjoying the Residence, these may oscillate between 5% and 25% and will be established in function of the physical and/or mental state of the adhered member. The definitive amount of the monthly cost for adhered members will be decided by the Economic Board which will study the state of the person and decide on the amount they consider to be correct, within the limits established previously, and in function of the services the person requires.

Those people interested in two places (for families) only have to make a contribution of  thirty-six thousand and sixty euros and seventy-three centimes (36,060.73 euros). For all other matters, including the monthly costs, the same rules are applied as for one person.

Should one person require two places he will have to make a payment of, thirty-six thousand and sixty euros and seventy-three centimes (36,060.73 euros), and his monthly costs will have an increment of twenty per cent.

These prices are exempt from VAT.

Internal Manegement

It is important to mention three points:

  1. As this is a cooperative, the resident members themselves participate in managing the centre.

  2. The number of workers in the Residence is three times greater than the number required by the Administration.

  3. Once a month, a commission made up of the President, some members of the Governing Board, the Director of the Centre and the person in charge of the medical services, together with families of the users of the Residence and some residents meet. This commission will observe the deficiencies that have been detected in the Residence: installations, food, services, etc., at the same time as proposing the amount for the residential expenses and their distribution. This system of management is substantially different to the system of management in other private centres, where the decisions are taken by the administration of the centre, using strictly business criteria.
